Plugins

The plugins site is currently in development.

We've been looking to provide a higher-quality, spam-free experience at the plugins site for some time, and a major error on our part forced us to shut down the current site before we could put the new one in place. We are developing a new site, and you can follow along with its development on GitHub. For more information about this transition, including steps you can take as a plugin author to prepare, please read our post about what's going on.

ellipsis

ThreeDots

ThreeDots is a customizable jQuery plugin for the smart truncation of text. It shortens identified text to fit specified dimensions and appends the desired ellipsis style if/when truncation occurs. (visit project homepage for more details)

By default, the three dots ellipsis ("...") is used and limits text to a maximum of 2 lines. These and many other characteristics are fully customizable...

  • word delimiters,
  • ellipsis string,
  • mouse-over effects,
  • ... and more ...

IMPLEMENTATION

$('.text_here').ThreeDots();
$('.text_here2').ThreeDots( {  /* OPTIONS * /  });

CSS3 Text overflow plugin

This jQuery plugin implements a simplified version of the CSS3 text-overflow property. The text-overflow property allows stylesheet authors to specify how and where text should be clipped. This is usually done by adding an ellipsis character "…" or three dots at the point the text should be cut off. Unfortunately, not all browser support this CSS property, and this plugin was designed to simulate it when not natively available.

Auto Ellipsis

This JQuery plugin does a simple job, it trims long text blocks and appends ellipsis (…) to the end them.

The algorithm tries to find the size of the element that contains the text block and then starts trimming the text until it fits the container element. The trimming job is being done in a hidden helper element that it creates, then the code replaces the original text of the container with the the trimmed text.
