First off, very nice work! I love this plugin! I'm using it on my website:

The page can take a while to load sometimes when the network is being bogged down. Is there a way to put a loading bar, or a wait.gif spinning image or something in the center of the main image div while the images are still loading? That way users know that the gallery is still loading.
Also, I changed your code to just display the alt text as the image caption instead of reading a separate tag attribute. It saved me a lot of duplicate typing because my alt text and my caption are always the same.
